Marlene has served as the conference youth minister since 1998. She is also the campus pastor at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School.

Marlene assists congregations that are searching for a youth pastor, or with the evaluation process for a current youth pastor. She meets with Franconia Conference and Eastern District youth ministers once a month for support, encouragement, prayer and resourcing.

She is in charge of the Youth Breezes newsletter, the annual fall retreat for student leaders and youth workers, and the junior high lock-in that is held each spring at Christopher Dock.

Marlene provides resources for youth leaders and mentors youth pastors (especially those in their first year). She is a part of the Youth Leadership Ministry Team of Mennonite Church USA, and is a part of the Youth Ministry Council (which includes the US and Canada), which brings together conference youth ministers each year to set the agenda for resources and needs in the coming year.

Prior to becoming the conference youth minister, Marlene served as a youth group sponsor and the youth pastor at Salford Mennonite for four years each. Her favorite part of the job is mentoring new youth pastors and student leaders, and one of her primary goals is to have long-term youth ministers in congregations — and figuring out what needs to happen in order for them to stay there.

Marlene’s latest interest is her first grandbaby, a little girl. She loves being at the beach, no matter what time of year, and likes to kayak.
