As the lead facilitator of PUMP, Ertell works to build collaborative relationships between the conference and urban ministries. (PUMP includes Eastern District, Lancaster Conference, Franconia and other organizations in Philadelphia, and its focus is education, mission leadership development and entrepreneurial initiatives.)

In his role as director of congregational resourcing and equipping, Ertell provides congregations with resources they need in order to carry out their mission. Ertell’s goal is “to equip the saints to carry out the great commission and God’s call for their life and purpose.”

Ertell was raised in north Philadelphia. He is a graduate of the Center for Urban Theological Studies and has served on the pastoral teams of Diamond Street Church and Bethel Mennonite Church of Norristown, Pa. In 1990, he helped to establish Nueva Vida Norristown New Life, where he is currently an associate pastor.

Ertell has been on conference staff since 2005. He and his wife, Patricia, have three grown children and five grandchildren. In his free time, Ertell enjoys playing the saxophone and traveling.
